Kids Rock On! At the Smithsonian

Kids Rock On! At the Smithsonian

If you’re stuck for something to do this Saturday, September 29, look no further than the Smithsonian, where its Rock On! Exhibition will have kids both big and small entertained all day long.

When you think of the Smithsonian, your mind may first go to the dinosaurs, mammals, pretty butterflies and that sizeable elephant, but the rocks and minerals exhibition can be just as fun – we promise.

Featuring dazzling crystals, a whole rainbow of colours and a bounty of textures, the natural gems are a treat for all of the senses.

Family-friendly, this celebration of stone, sand and gravel will feature interesting talks by scientists from Smithsonian, National Park Service and the government, plus a whole host of hands-on activities such as –

  • A simulated volcano eruption
  • Marbleizing paper with rocks
  • Cracking open a special type of rock called a geode

Head down to the Smithsonian Natural History Museum on September 29 from 10 am – 4 pm, plus it’s all FREE!
